The “Superbag,” a functional vase that faithfully recreates the unique creases and shadows of paper bags through ceramic artistry, combines the unexpectedness and humor of being a fired object. First released in 1979, this series resonates with the Superrealism movement within the contemporary art world of that era. Its exceptional design quality led to its selection for the permanent collection of MoMA (The Museum of Modern Art, New York).

Biography

Born in Tokyo, he studied under Stig Lindberg at the Sweden-based "Gustavsberg" House, and his design activities have been diverse, ranging from ceramics to glass and stainless steel tableware, lighting and furniture. His Crinkle Super Bag was selected for the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York, and his products are still sold in MoMA shops around the world. Other museums around the world, such as the FAENZA Museum of Ceramics in Italy and the VICTORIA & ALBERT Museum in the UK, have his work in their collections. POTS", produced in collaboration with Ceramic Japan, won the Grand Prize in the design category at the 1st International Ceramics Festival '86 Mino.
