This series of ceramic pieces utilizes several of the most popular glazes traditionally used in the Seto region over the ages. These are Oribe, Ame (Candy), and Kizeto (Yellow Seto). The design features hints of handmade craftsmanship, such as the uneven surface typical of pieces formed on the potter’s wheel. The deep form and appropriate lightness make the pieces useful for a variety of purposes, such as soups, and allow the user to enjoy a richer presence each time they use them.

Biography

Product designer, born 1944 in Tokyo. After graduating from the wood crafts department of Tokyo Metropolitan Kogei High School and Musashino Art University, he worked as a research student at the Institute of Industrial Arts and Crafts before establishing the Katsuhiko Ogino Design Office Ltd. in 1966. He has been working on the design of furniture and other woodwork, ceramics and metal castings, as well as general household products.
